Tesla’s Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance is a handy safety feature that keeps you in your lane when you drift out and step over the solid side line. However, the sound that it produces could be irritating for some drivers, especially if the road you are driving on is narrow or you are passing by a construction site where the markings are usually mixed up.

That is why we created an automation that disables the ELDA on the legacy Model 3 & Y without taking away the safety benefits. To unlock it, you need to have our Gen2 Commander unit installed at the front right A-pillar.

See it in action by watching our YouTube video:

How does it work?

Before activating the feature in the S3XY App, go to the Autopilot settings on your Tesla’s screen and ensure that Lane Departure Avoidance is set to either Warning or Assist; otherwise, the automation will not work.

Once that’s done, open the S3XY App and navigate to the Commander tab. Select Disable ELDA, and make sure to carefully read through the instructions before pressing Accept. The toggle will then be enabled automatically.

How the feature behaves will depend on whether you selected Warning or Assist in the Autopilot settings:

- If you choose Warning, the steering wheel will vibrate whenever you cross the solid side line to get your attention, but no sound will be produced.

- If you choose Assist, the car will gently steer you back into your lane and produce a quieter, less intrusive alert sound.

We also created an option where you can set under or over what speed the car returns to its default settings and play the warning sound.
