Tesla vehicles use their cameras to detect precipitation when activating the automatic wipers and the auto headlights. This approach is not without its flaws. Sometimes the wipers will engage, despite the fact there isn't a single drop of rain, and reverse is also true - they will remain off, even if it's raining heavily. The lack of traditional rain sensors has sparked various discussions within the community.

On top of that, many countries around the world require drivers to turn on their headlights whenever it’s raining, regardless of whether it’s a drizzle or a heavy downpour. To make life easier for those folks, we created an automation called Headlights When Raining.

To see the feature in action, just watch the tutorial below:

How does it work?

It’s pretty straightforward - whenever you activate your wipers, the low beams will turn on automatically in 15 seconds. And when the wipers switch off, the headlights will follow soon after.

Just like all of our automations, this one can also be found inside the Commander tab in the S3XY App.

It’s a pretty handy feature that will help you avoid the risk of getting fined because you forgot to enable the low beams when it’s raining. It also spares the fumble through the main screen in those instances when you remember to turn on your headlights.
