Automatically Trigger Actions When Your Tesla Shifts Into Reverse

The first major feature we introduced in Update 6.4 was the Actions On Reverse automation. It allows you to automatically trigger various actions when you change your Tesla’s drive state into R.
In this article, you are going to learn how this feature works and how to set it up. All you need to do before you get started is to have our Commander unit installed and paired with the S3XY App, which you can download from the App Store or Google Play.
You can also check our video tutorial, if you are more of a visual learner:
Actions On Reverse - How does it work?
As mentioned above, this automation executes several actions when your Tesla shifts into Reverse. You can toggle on and off each of these actions inside the S3XY App -> Commander -> Actions On Reverse.
Currently, the available options include:
- Automatically turning on the Rear Fog Lights, for improved visibility at night or in low-visibility conditions. It works on all Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, but owners of the legacy models will find it especially useful since these vehicle are not as great.
It’s worth pointing out that some US-built Highland and Juniper models do not have rear fog light so this automation will not be available for them. However, one exception is the Model 3 Highland Premium which does have the rear fog lights installed, but they cannot be enabled through the Tesla’s UI.
- Continuous flash of the taillights - a feature we dubbed Dynamic Brake Lights. Not only it further improves visibility, but it will also signal passersby and nearby drivers.
- Disabling the automatic dimming of the side mirrors. Some people had questions about that one since it doesn’t make sense at first. But we received countless reports from our community, stating that when they park at night (inside a garage for example) they can hardly see anything through the side mirrors. Keep in mind it will take roughly 15 seconds for the feature to take full effect.
- Mute All Sounds - this toggle silences the inside and outside speakers of your Tesla. This means it will mute phone calls, music, warning chimes, and the UFO reverse sound. Many people have requested this since they were concerned about disturbing family members and neighbours when parking late at night.
Note: Keep in mind that enabling this feature will dim your Tesla screen to show that the feature is active. If you are using it during the day that would significantly reduce visibility, especially if the display is exposed to direct sunlight. That is why we recommend enabling the toggle at the bottom of the page, called Only After Sunset.
Also, the Shift-Out-Of-Park will not work as long as the Mute All Sounds toggle is enabled.
Suggestions
In our company, we like listening to feedback from our community through our customer support and the comment sections across all social media platforms. And sometimes people give interesting ideas. In this case, one user suggested that we add an automatic activation of the hazard lights whenever the Tesla switches to Reverse.
So, if you have any ideas how to make this feature even better, share them with us on social media.
