How to mute Tesla’s Intelligent Speed Assist?
Not long ago, Tesla implemented a safety feature called Intelligent Speed Assist, which issues a warning every time you exceed the speed limit. It’s now integrated into all newly built vehicles аs a requirement in over 30 countries worldwide.
However, it quickly became frustrating for many owners, as the alert activates even if you exceed the speed limit by just 3 km/h.
That’s why we created an automation that silences the speed limit warning. See it in action in our video tutorial:
Why did we have to create it?
Besides the fact that Intelligent Speed Assist alerts you even when you exceed the speed limit by just a few kilometers per hour, there are two other reasons that led us to develop this automation.
The first is that the camera on your Tesla sometimes can’t detect the current traffic sign. Additionally, some roads in the EU are not properly marked with updated signs, causing the chime to go off for no reason.
Of course, you can mute it via Tesla’s UI by tapping on the traffic sign icon, but you have to repeat that tedious process every time you enter the car.
How does it work?
First, head over to the Commander tab in the S3XY App, where all our automations are located. At the top of the page, select Mute Speed Limit Sound, and simply enable the toggle.
That’s it. Now you can enjoy peaceful drives without the warning beeping at you when you slightly exceed the speed limit or when you are overtaking someone. Plus, you no longer have to remind yourself to tap the traffic sign icon on Tesla’s main screen to mute the chime.
However, you might not want to silence the alert entirely - you may still want to be notified when you're driving significantly over the speed limit. That’s why we included an option to set a custom offset that re-enables Intelligent Speed Assist if you exceed a specified speed threshold. We typically set ours to 10 km/h above the limit.
This is a great Tesla hack that will make your driving experience much more enjoyable, so make sure to share it with your Tesla buddies!
