The S3XY Dash provides a fully customizable instrument cluster experience for Tesla. It displays real-time car data; allows for quick and easy execution of multiple actions; and supports configurable Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

In this article, we are going to walk you through everything you need to know when customizing your S3XY Dash, as well as address questions from our community.

If you are more of a visual learner, we have a special tutorial that you can check below:

Commander Pairing

Before you do any customizations, you need to connect your S3XY Dash to the Commander which is the brain behind all of our products.

When you power on the Dash, the first thing that may appear on the screen would be a pop-up message, telling you that a Commander is required. Alternatively, an icon of our OBD dongle will be on the left corner of the screen with an exclamation mark inside of it.

To connect both devices, press and hold the screen, then open the settings inside the S3XY Dash (the gear icon). Inside, go to S3XY Devices and press “Add Device” to look for available units. Once the search is completed, press the Connect button and the pairing process should be over in a few seconds.

Adding Action/Stat

To add an action or a stat, first press and hold the screen. This allows you to add, remove, or edit the widgets on the current page. If there is an empty space on the display, a plus sign will appear. Tap it to open the widget menu.

Inside the menu, you’ll find three sections.

The first section is Stats, where you can display real-time vehicle data such as battery temperature, battery degradation, remaining capacity, total discharge, and more.

The second section is Actions, where you’ll find controls for regenerative braking, seat positioning, battery preheating, and much more.

Once you’ve added an action to the display, there are two ways to execute it. The first is by simply tapping it on the screen. The second is by navigating to the action by flicking the right scroll wheel button, then pushing it to the right.

When the action is triggered, a line underneath its name will indicate its current state.

The final section contains Special Widgets, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, speed gauges, media and navigation widgets, and combined widgets.

You can scale different widget sizes as long as they fit on the screen. For regular stat widgets, you can choose between a 1x1 square, a 1x2 vertical bar, or a 2x1 horizontal bar. Widgets like Apple CarPlay can be scaled from a 2x2 square to a full-screen 6x2 layout.

In addition to the widgets themselves, you can also customize page layouts. Press and hold the screen and select Page Edit in the bottom-left corner. From there, you can add, duplicate, or remove pages, choose the order in which they appear, and select which stats are displayed on the left and right.

Switching Between Pages

There are several ways you can switch between pages.

The first is by simply swiping through the screen, the second method is by flicking the right scroll wheel button.

But our favorite method is the automation we have include which automatically jump to specific pages for you, based on certain driving conditions.

To set it up, go to Page Edit, and head over to the Automation section. First, select the page number you want your Dash to jump to before adjusting the conditions - drive state, acceleration mode, charging status, Autopilot on/off.

For example, if you have a specific layout for Drive Mode on page 2, set the page position to number 2, then select D under Gear. Now, every time you shift into Drive, the screen will automatically jump to page 2 and display that layout.

Connecting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

To pair your S3XY Dash with Apple CarPlay, first open the Bluetooth settings on your phone. Then look for a device, named S3XY Dash with a bar icon in the front and a number at the back. Select the device and a pairing request will pop on the next page. Tap Pair and approve all the necessary permissions.

When the process is complete, press Connect to CarPlay pop-up will appear. Tap Connect and wait for the pairing to finish. The process is similar to Android Auto.

Sound Transfer

If you want to change the audio output from the Dash to your Tesla’s speakers, go to the settings, then Controls. There, you’ll find two options: Phone and Dash. If you select Phone and your device is connected to the car, the audio will play through the Tesla speakers instead of your phone.

This is great if you want to listen to music and receive phone calls, but for Waze notifications and other such chimes we would go for the Dash speakers.

Light Theme

Upon a popular request we have introduced a Light Theme to remove reflections and glare from the windshield at night.

To enable it, tap the gear icon on the left side, go to Controls, scroll to the bottom of the page, and select Light.

Dash Update

To update the S3XY Dash, make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection. Then go to Dash Settings → Update and download the available version.

If your Dash is running software version 6.5 or later - which must first be installed directly through the Dash - you’ll be able to install future updates from the S3XY App as well. Just make sure your unit is connected to the app, and all future updates will appear on the app’s home page.

Note

At the moment, the Commander cannot maintain two connections at once. This means stats and actions can be monitored either through your phone or through the Dash itself, but not both simultaneously.

We are working on improving the connectivity so that both devices can be used at the same time in the future.
